A member of the Alabama police department was discovered shot and dead in the street, according to the police. Wednesday morning, a Selma Police Department investigator and evidence technician discovered a deceased individual on a roadway with a gunshot wound.
Chief of Police Kenta Fulford of Selma stated that officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Water Avenue at approximately 1:00 a.m. in response to a complaint of a person being shot. Officers discovered Jamyron Hope unresponsive on the ground upon their arrival. The deceased was declared present at the location.
Fulford stated that Hope was a departmental evidence technician. The investigation is currently being led by Special Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The intersection of Water Street and U.S. Highway 80 will be closed for an extended period of time, according to Sergeant Jeremy Burkett.
