Callaway County law enforcement declares inmate from Department of Corrections as deceased

Callaway County law enforcement officials have announced that an inmate from the Department of Corrections has been pronounced dead.

At 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2024, Univeristy Hospital pronounced the death of 53-year-old inmate Carl Pearson. A photograph taken at Boone County Jail shows Pearson before his passing.

On June 16, an inmate at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center in Callaway County passed away, as confirmed by the facility’s staff.

At 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, Carl Pearson, aged 53, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

According to a press release, he was convicted of forgery in St. Charles County and is currently serving a five-year sentence. He was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections on March 22, 2024.

An autopsy will be conducted to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Pearson’s death. However, no further details have been disclosed at this time.
