Authorities suspect that a 12-year-old girl might have left her house unnoticed before being discovered deceased in a stream.

Officials are currently conducting an investigation into the death of a young girl, whose body was discovered in a creek on the north side of the city on Monday morning.

During an evening press conference, Mayor John Whitmire and investigators from the Houston Police Department revealed that they had reason to believe the girl had left her home at around 10 p.m. on Sunday night without being reported missing.

At around 6 a.m., officials were able to verify that a victim, who is suspected to be a 12-year-old, was discovered at a creek located in the 400 block of West Rankin Road.

During a press conference, Acting Police Chief Larry Satterwhite made a heartbreaking announcement, “One of our innocent children has been taken. We strongly believe that someone has committed this heinous crime and we urgently require your assistance.”

Whitmire expressed his frustration at the presence of hazardous offenders wandering around the city of Houston.

According to HPD, they are currently scrutinizing surveillance footage to pursue leads. They have labeled the situation as suspicious and strongly suspect that foul play is at hand.

The condition of the girl’s body has not been disclosed by the police. However, Satterwhite and Whitmire revealed that they have spoken to the girl’s mother while the medical examiner’s office is in the process of officially identifying the victim.

According to Satterwhite, the little girl’s family as well as herself are devastated by the loss. “This little girl is gone,” she expressed solemnly.

If you have any information about the girl’s death, please get in touch with Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477), as urged by the authorities.
