New district judge appointed by Alabama governor for 29th Judicial Circuit

Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama made an announcement on Monday regarding the appointment of J. Scott Brewer as the district judge in Talladega County’s 29th Judicial Circuit. Judge Brewer’s appointment comes following the retirement of Judge Jeb Fannin, who served for 15 years and announced his retirement effective June 1.

According to Ivey, Scott Brewer is a skilled lawyer and prosecutor who has served the people of Talladega County for many years. He has a strong record of public service and is well-known throughout the 29th Judicial Circuit. Ivey expressed confidence that Brewer would continue to apply the law correctly and fairly to all in his new judgeship position.

After graduating from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, Brewer began his career as an attorney in 2004, working for a private practice. He then worked as an assistant district attorney in 2008, gaining valuable experience in the legal field.

Brewer expressed his enthusiasm for the new opportunity and eagerly anticipates collaborating with the other judges, attorneys, court staff, and residents of Talladega County. He extended his gratitude towards his wife, family, and supporters who stood by him throughout the process. Additionally, he gave a heartfelt thanks to District Attorney Steve Giddens for hiring him 16 years ago, acknowledging the instrumental role Giddens played in his career.

The serving date set by the Brewer is July 8, 2024.
