Last year, a woman from Freeport admitted her guilt in drug trafficking charges following her arrest in Mexico.
Deanna Marie Gerads, a 33-year-old woman, admitted her guilt in a federal court in North Dakota on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to the distribution and possession of controlled substances.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Gerads was apprehended in Mexico on August 1 of last year and subsequently deported back to the U.S. She had been a fugitive for over a year prior to her capture.

Gerads’ case is being investigated by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force as part of a wider probe into the trafficking of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl between Mexico and the Midwest.
Gerads and 11 other individuals have been indicted for their involvement in a drug smuggling operation. The operation entailed importing Class A narcotics from Mexico to various states including Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
The sentencing date for her has been scheduled for July 2.
