A man from Mexico has been sentenced to jail for his involvement in an odometer scheme that originated from purchasing cars in Wisconsin.
Israel Sanchez-Pulido, a 41-year-old individual, has been sentenced to one year and one day in jail by the US Attorney’s Office. This comes as a result of his involvement in a scheme aimed at altering the mileage on used cars.
According to reports, Israel, hailing from Mexico City, has reportedly confessed to multiple crimes on September 6, 2023.
As part of his plea deal, Isrela admitted to purchasing 146 high-mileage cars from Wisconsin Auto Sales between 2009 and 2014. He then proceeded to roll back the odometers, alter the mileage claims on the title papers, and sell the cars with fraudulent low odometer readings.
According to the report, the majority of the individuals who purchased the cars were from Illinois. It has been reported that these cars frequently had a mileage that was significantly lower, by over 100,000 miles, than the actual mileage. Officials have stated that the fraudulent scheme involving these 146 cars resulted in a cost of more than $250,000.
According to the report, Israel would purchase the cars and subsequently transport them to a used car lot in Illinois.
Israel was speeding in his car when he got pulled over in Illinois, after being on the run for nearly a decade.
“Illegal activities like these are driven by individuals who prioritize their personal gain over the welfare of vulnerable consumers. What’s even more concerning is that the defendant managed to evade accountability for almost ten years after being charged. I want to express my appreciation for the dedicated efforts of our federal and state partners in ensuring justice for the victims involved in this case.”

Another business owner, John Doe, expressed his frustration about the lack of support from the local community. He mentioned that many people seem hesitant to dine out or visit local shops due to safety concerns. This has made it even more challenging for businesses to recover and generate revenue.
The report also highlighted the efforts being made by local organizations to support these struggling businesses. The Chamber of Commerce, for example, has launched a campaign urging residents to shop and dine locally. They are also working with the city government to provide financial assistance and resources to affected businesses.
Despite these efforts, the road to recovery remains uncertain for many local businesses. The ongoing pandemic and the associated restrictions continue to pose challenges and uncertainties. However, the resilience and determination of these business owners offer hope for a brighter future.
