Westminster Middle School Detains 12-Year-Old Student for Possession of Knife

A 12-year-old student in Westminster, CA was detained on Monday morning for bringing a knife to Warner Middle School. The incident took place shortly before 11 a.m. but was promptly resolved by the school staff who found and confiscated the knife before any harm could be done.

Westminster Police Chief Darin Lenyi expressed his relief that the situation was resolved without causing any harm. Lenyi stated, “We are grateful that school staff intervened and successfully located the knife before any serious incident could occur involving the student. The safety and well-being of our students and teachers is our top priority.”

After the incident, the student was released to his parents. The school will take its own disciplinary measures, and the Westminster Police Department has indicated that the case will be referred to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. This indicates that there may be pending criminal charges against the student.

Police officials have confirmed that investigators have not found any other incidents or threats against students at Warner Middle School. The motives behind the student’s decision to bring a knife to school have not been disclosed yet.
