Use of cameras to apprehend suspected cop killer in Illinois.

Chicago police credited the use of video footage from almost 100 surveillance cameras for aiding their investigation into the murder of Officer Luis Huesca. With support from the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Chicago Police successfully located and apprehended Xavier Tate Jr. in Glendale Heights. Tate stands accused of the fatal shooting and carjacking of Huesca, a respected member of the Chicago Police department with six years of service.

The Thompson Center is undergoing demolition of its exterior and atrium as Google moves forward with its plans to transform the former state government building into its Chicago headquarters. To kick off the $280 million renovation project, crews have begun using excavators to remove the lower exterior portions of the building. In 2022, Google purchased the 39-year-old building, which was often criticized as an “eyesore,” for $105 million.
