The State Department has recently updated its security warnings for U.S. government employees in Israel due to concerns of a potential retaliatory attack from Iran.
The U.S. Embassy in Israel has recently issued a security alert on Thursday, imposing restrictions on personal travel for American employees and their family members. Until further notice, they are advised to refrain from traveling outside of the greater Tel Aviv area, Jerusalem, and the southern city of Be’er Sheva.
The embassy issued the security alert as a precautionary measure. It emphasized that there may be further restrictions imposed without prior notice in response to security incidents.
U.S. citizens in the country are also advised to consult ongoing travel advisories and should be aware of the continuing risks of travel to Israel.
The Biden administration is raising concerns about an imminent and noteworthy Iranian military retaliation following the attack on its embassy in Syria on April 1. The attack, believed to be carried out by Israel, resulted in the death of seven Iranian military advisors, including three high-ranking members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
John Kirby, the White House communications adviser for national security, stated on Friday that the administration considers the Iranian threat to be “credible.”
He expressed that they are closely monitoring the situation.
“We maintain constant communication with our Israeli counterparts regarding the preparations for this threat.”
