The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office is scheduled to provide an update on Friday regarding the tragic incident involving the death of a 4-year-old child who was struck and killed in a mall parking lot.
On March 10, tragedy struck when an 18-year-old driver collided with Abigail Hernandez, her father, and her 7-year-old sister in front of the Mall of Georgia. The devastating accident claimed Abigail’s life, leaving her family in unimaginable grief.
In April, Gwinnett County DA Patsy Austin-Gatson indicated to Channel 2 Action News that her office would contemplate pursuing misdemeanor charges against the teenage driver.
Abigail’s family is expecting the announcement of the charges in a news conference scheduled for Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The Hernandez family has been tirelessly advocating for justice for their daughter ever since she tragically passed away.
The Gwinnett police have concluded their investigation and have determined that the driver should not be held criminally responsible. The driver, whose identity has been withheld as no charges have been filed, remained at the scene of the incident and fully cooperated with the police.
After reviewing the video footage of the incident, the District Attorney’s office made the decision to pursue charges.
