At the 2023 summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, NATO allies reached an agreement that Ukraine could become a member of NATO once specific conditions are fulfilled. However, this decision has faced criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Baltic allies, who have expressed disappointment over the absence of clear objectives and a timeline for Kyiv’s inclusion in the alliance.
Ukraine’s allies are working on ways to showcase strong international backing for Kyiv, which can be unveiled at NATO’s Washington summit, commemorating the alliance’s 75th anniversary.
Amid worries about the United States’ diminishing commitment to supporting Ukraine, the deliverables take on significant importance. House Republicans are obstructing additional American aid, and there are concerns that if former President Trump were to return to the White House, the U.S. might backtrack on its commitments to allies and partners.
