Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee recently bid farewell to one of its most cherished employees. Rex, a German shorthaired pointer, had been dedicatedly serving in the field for five years, almost as long as he has been alive. Though Rex loved his job, the time had come for him to embark on a new chapter in his life. The airport staff couldn’t be happier for this hard-working pup as he enters retirement, knowing he has contributed immensely to keeping the airport running smoothly.
Regina Eisenberg, Rex’s handler and owner, played a key role in organizing his surprise party. After all, it’s not just humans who deserve a special send-off! However, instead of the usual cake, Rex was given a decoy passenger’s bag to inspect. As soon as he alerted Regina, his human friends sprang into action, showering him with an abundance of tennis balls and toys. It was a delightful surprise that brought joy to everyone involved.
In the video above, it is evident that Rex is thoroughly enjoying the chaos. He is loving every moment of it, especially with the abundance of enticing toys to chase after. However, he seems to be a bit indecisive when it comes to choosing which toy to go after.
TSA Dog Celebrates His Retirement With Lots of Toys, Pets, and Attention — As He Deserves!
After the flurry of toys settles, Regina takes off Rex’s “Do Not Pet” patch. At this point, everyone, including guests and fellow employees, can shower this well-behaved pup with all the pets he deserves. It goes without saying that this was a joyous occasion for both Rex and the people present.
Rex has some exciting retirement plans ahead. First and foremost, he will be staying with Regina. The TSA has confirmed that Rex is ready to embrace a more relaxed lifestyle. And I have a strong intuition that this newfound leisure time will involve countless hours of playing fetch with his favorite balls.
