Three police officers injured and gunman killed in violent standoff in Louisiana

Three police officers in a New Orleans suburb sustained gunshot wounds on Sunday while engaging in a deadly standoff with a man who was believed to be responsible for two earlier shootings.

Matthew Lathers, a 31-year-old resident of Kenner, was ultimately killed by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office sniper, as reported by Fox 8 in New Orleans.

All three Kenner police officers who were shot are expected to recover from their injuries. According to the news station, one officer was shot in the arm, another in the leg, and the third in the stomach.

By Sunday afternoon, two of the officers had been discharged from the hospital, while the third officer continued to receive treatment and remained in stable condition.
