Third inmate death this year reported at DeKalb jail, man dies in custody

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of an inmate in their custody. This marks the third inmate to pass away since March.

Charles Robert Smith had a medical emergency in his jail cell on Monday morning, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

When EMS personnel arrived, the sheriff’s office’s on-site medical team rushed to provide emergency services to Smith. However, despite their efforts, Smith was pronounced dead.

Smith, who had been living in College Park, had been held at the DeKalb County Jail since December, according to the sheriff’s office.
