The stunning view and rent-free living at Oakland’s ‘Trash Beach’

Three years ago, Simpson came across a neglected and abandoned spot which is officially known as Toll Plaza Beach or Radio Beach due to its radio towers. However, the residents like Simpson call it Trash Beach or Dead Baby Beach, according to him, because of an unverified rumor that an unborn fetus once washed up on its shore.

Simpson believed that his purpose in life was to take care of the beach, as he felt that he was sent by God to do so. He made it a daily routine to clean up the beach and even offered cold refreshments to kiteboarders and windsurfers. Simpson’s life before this was quite different, as he dealt drugs, worked in strip clubs, and had even spent time in prison. However, living at the beach gave him a sense of higher purpose and fulfillment.

Simpson’s attempts to improve the living conditions of his place are noteworthy, but unfortunately, he will not be able to stay for long. Recently, on June 26, the Public Works Department of Oakland issued a notice to him and the other inhabitants of the beach, giving them a two-week ultimatum to vacate their encampments.

According to the notice posted, the site has been declared uninhabitable by the Public Works Department. It directs all individuals to vacate the premises and remove any personal belongings they may have.

According to the San Francisco Boardsailing Association, Simpson’s account of the situation is incorrect. They claim that his encampment has caused the beach to deteriorate, and this has had a negative impact on the area’s reputation as one of the best spots for kiteboarding in the Bay Area.

According to the website of the association, the massive encampment has become a hub for car break-ins, and the rising amount of garbage and untreated sewage is directly flowing into the nearby waters.
