Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, along with Congressman David Kustoff and several members of the Tennessee Legislature, recently convened with 50 Tennessee National Guard members. These dedicated individuals are preparing to be deployed to Texas for Operation Loan Star.
The National Guard members have been deployed to Texas as part of the two waves of forces that Lee had previously pledged to send.
According to a statement made by Lee, the United States is currently dealing with an unprecedented border crisis, resulting in a range of negative consequences such as increased crime rates, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. In response to the federal government’s lack of action, governors are collaborating and taking immediate steps to secure the border. Lee specifically commends Tennessee’s National Guard troops for their dedication in answering this crucial call to service and providing vital support.
Lee and Kustoff were accompanied by Senators Ed Jackson of Crockett and Brent Taylor of Memphis, as well as Representatives Chris Hurt of Halls, Debra Moody of Covington, and Chris Todd of Madison County.
The Tennessee Legislature is currently considering a legislation that would grant Governor Lee the authority to deploy a significant number of National Guard members to Texas for a period of up to one year. This deployment, which would come at a cost of up to $1.4 million, would not require any additional approval.
House Bill 2190 is scheduled to be reviewed by the House State Government Committee on Wednesday.
