They conducted a thorough investigation, which involved searching for witnesses, gathering evidence, and obtaining important video footage that captured the suspect leaving the scene.
Detectives have been actively pursuing leads and working closely with external partners since the heinous crime took place, according to police.
Yesterday, there was a major development in the case when DNA evidence played a crucial role in quickly identifying and apprehending the suspect on the I-5 Freeway, according to the police.
Marcos Maldonado, a 35-year-old suspect, was captured by the police after he left a hotel in downtown Los Angeles and got on a bus heading to Bakersfield, California.
Maldonado is now facing charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. He has been booked at the Culver City Police Department, and his bail has been set at $1.25 million.
The Culver City Police Department collaborated closely with the UCLA Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office during the investigation, according to the police.
Culver City Police have confirmed that they are working closely with other law enforcement agencies to identify any potential additional victims, although there have been no reports of similar crimes in the area.
