Source says Trump rally shooter registered to attend event online one week prior to the shooting

According to a source familiar with the matter, someone using the identity of the 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania who made an attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump, registered online to attend the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 6, just a week before the shooting incident took place.

According to the source, the person registered with a secure email address and a mobile phone number that are encrypted.

According to a source, the person who used the email and cell phone signed up online three days after the Trump campaign announced on July 3rd that the rally would be held on July 13th.

According to federal authorities, Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump by shooting him in the ear during the rally held on Saturday. Tragically, one of the attendees also lost their life in the attack.

Officials stated that the suspect fired from a building located outside the security perimeter but was only within 400 feet of the podium where Trump delivered his speech.

Sources have revealed that Crooks, the suspect, had searched for images of President Joe Biden and former President Trump on his phone. Additionally, he had searched for the dates of Trump’s rally in Butler and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. ABC News had previously reported on these findings.

Upon reviewing Crooks’ phone search history, investigators found no evidence of his political affiliations. At this point, his motive remains under investigation.

The individuals providing the briefing stated that the reason behind the assassination attempt is still unknown. They have not found any connection to either Trump or Biden’s ideologies.
