Tennessee authorities have successfully apprehended one of the state’s most wanted fugitives in connection with the death of a man who had been missing for several months. The victim’s remains were discovered in a freezer buried on a 17-acre property located in a secluded area of the state.
Jim Chambers, aged 37, has been apprehended in Louisiana for his alleged involvement in the death of Edward Elliott, aged 64, as declared by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) in a press statement. The Carter County Sheriff’s Office and TBI had been seeking Chambers for charges related to first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.
The victim was last seen wearing bluejeans and a T-shirt with cut-off sleeves. Authorities mentioned that he had a medical condition that might affect his ability to return safely without help.
According to an affidavit, a witness reported seeing two men “violently kicking” Elliott while the victim begged for mercy in either January or February, as stated by local CBS/ABC affiliate WJHL.
The authorities swiftly apprehended and detained the initial suspect as soon as they found Elliott’s lifeless body.
Chambers, who had been placed on Tennessee’s most wanted fugitive list, was apprehended in Louisiana this week with the assistance of the FBI New Orleans Office, the Louisiana State Police, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.
The defendant, who is me, is set to be extradited from Louisiana to Carter County. Meanwhile, the second man is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on June 5.
