Rescuers Search Debris for Survivors After Utility Crew Accidentally Cut Gas Line, Caught on Video

After a contractor accidentally struck a gas line while working, a home in New York state exploded and a fire broke out shortly after noon on Thursday. Rescue workers are now scouring the area for any potential victims.

In the video, firefighters can be seen carefully shifting through rubble and debris outside what remains of a home situated in the village of Wappingers Falls in Dutchess County.

The Poughkeepsie Journal has reported that two individuals have been rescued from the debris.

According to WABC, several individuals were transported to the hospital, with some airlifted via helicopter. Electric and natural gas service in the surrounding area was disconnected at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Kathy Hochul, the Governor of New York, has been apprised of the situation and has urged residents to comply with the instructions of first responders.

It is currently unclear who the victims are or their current condition. However, early reports suggest that children may be among those affected. Further information about their identities will be released as it becomes available.
