Reggie Bush, the former USC player, is set to receive the Heisman Trophy again, nearly two decades after his victory in 2005.
In 2010, USC faced sanctions for violations, including improper benefits given to Bush during his tenure with the Trojans, leading to his forfeiture of the Heisman Trophy. However, with the recent “enormous changes in college athletics,” such as the allowance for college players to earn money from their name, image, and likeness, the Heisman Trophy Trust president, Michael Comerford, has announced that Bush will be regaining his trophy.
“I’m genuinely excited to come together again with my fellow Heisman winners and contribute to the rich history of the Heisman Trophy. It’s a true honor for me to be welcomed back into the Heisman family,” expressed Bush in a statement to ESPN. “Moreover, I’m eager to collaborate with the Heisman Trust in promoting and upholding the organization’s values and mission.”
Other Heisman winners have expressed their support for Bush’s return to the fold. Recently, Johnny Manziel announced that he would not attend the ceremony until Bush was reinstated. With the latest news, both men could potentially be present at the 2025 festivities.
