An attorney who filed a lawsuit to challenge the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Michigan, which was unsuccessful, has been released from jail after posting a $10,000 bond. The attorney appeared in a Michigan court to address an outstanding warrant before being released.
Stefanie Lambert surrendered herself on Thursday morning, following her arrest in Washington, D.C. earlier this week. The arrest was made based on a bench warrant issued by a Michigan judge.
Lambert, who is currently facing felony charges, is accused of improperly accessing voting equipment in an attempt to find evidence of an alleged conspiracy to steal the 2020 election from Trump. However, she failed to appear at a hearing on March 7, which subsequently led to the issuance of a warrant.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jeffery Matis took action and ordered Lambert to be taken into custody for fingerprinting and DNA sampling. On Thursday, Lambert made her appearance in the courtroom wearing a maroon uniform, with her hands cuffed. Matis then directed Lambert to post a $10,000 cash bond, which she successfully did later in the evening, leading to her release from jail.
During the proceedings before Matis, prosecutors emphasized that Lambert’s actions had brought the entire case to a sudden stop. Alongside Lambert, former state GOP Rep. Daire Rendon and Matthew DePerno, who was a former Republican state attorney general candidate, are also facing charges in this case.
Timothy Maat, a prosecutor from Muskegon County, acknowledged the significant impact she has had in this area with her disruptive actions.
Lambert’s absence from the March 7 hearing was related to his refusal to comply with a fingerprint and DNA order.
Lambert’s lawyer, Dan Hartman, attributed her failure to appear on March 7 to a lack of communication with her previous attorney.
According to Hartman, throughout the entire 14-day period, she has been living and working at the same house, emphasizing that she has never been a fugitive of justice.
Lambert firmly denied any claims of missing a court appearance and expressed her frustration with the situation. As she was leaving the jail, she emphasized that the law and the facts surrounding the case had been misrepresented. Lambert also shared her dissatisfaction with the unnecessary and invasive process of being strip-searched, which she had to endure twice during her time in jail.
The pre-trial hearing for Lambert’s case has been scheduled for March 28th.
Lambert faced arrest on Monday evening after her federal court hearing in Washington D.C. regarding a separate legal issue related to the election conspiracy theories that she and other Trump allies have been promoting. She had appeared in court to justify her actions of leaking internal emails from Dominion Voting Systems. Lambert had obtained these emails while serving as an attorney for an election denier who was accused of defaming the company.
District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Heide Herrmann has ordered Lambert’s release on an unsecured $10,000 bond. Lambert’s lawyer expressed her willingness and readiness to return to Michigan and address the warrant.
