Powerball lottery winner Yanira Alvarez loses half of fortune, remains tight-lipped about historic win

Yanira Alvarez has been identified as the winner of the $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot.

After a wait of almost eight months, the individual who struck gold and became a billionaire has been revealed. The remarkable ticket was purchased back in July 2023 at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles.

Alvarez chose to receive the $1.08 billion payout in a lump sum. The winning numbers that led to his massive fortune were 7, 10, 11, 13, 24, and the red Powerball 24.

After opting for a lump sum, she ended up with a staggering $558.1 million in her pocket, post-tax.

According to Angelica Menjivar, the stepdaughter of the store manager, the Powerball winner is described as a “Hispanic lady.”

During an interview with the New York Post on Saturday, Menjivar described the individual as an elderly Latina lady.

When someone wins the jackpot in California, they are required to have their name and location disclosed.

Alvarez chose not to provide any public statements regarding the announcement.

The California lottery utilizes the funds generated from its drawings to support local schools, even though Alvarez won’t receive the full amount of her winnings.

According to Harjinder K. Shergill Chima, the director of the California Lottery, the players deserve immense gratitude for their invaluable support in benefiting the state’s public schools.

“We are fueled by our mission every day. Jackpot prizes not only change the lives of big winners, but they also make a significant impact on students and teachers in classrooms throughout the state.”

California has produced its third Powerball jackpot winner, joining the ranks of Edwin Castro and Theodorus “Theo” Struyck. Alvarez is the latest lucky Californian to become a billionaire thanks to the Powerball.

POWERBALL BILLIONAIRES

In early March, Struyck, the representative of the group that won $1.76 billion in October 2023, emerged as the victor of the second-largest jackpot in US history.

The ticket was purchased by the 65-year-old grandfather in Frazier Park, a mountain town north of Los Angeles, last October. It is believed that he collected the prize shortly after.

According to friends and neighbors, he is known as a humble family man.

Struyck’s neighbors are confident that he won’t squander his earnings, unlike his fellow Powerball winner, Edwin Castro.

In November 2022, Castro, a former mechanic from Los Angeles, made history by winning the largest lottery jackpot in the nation’s history, totaling a staggering $2.04 billion.

Castro has been captured on camera driving a fleet of classic cars, including Porsches and Volkswagens, since that time.

At just 32 years old, Castro has made some impressive real estate investments in the Los Angeles area. He recently acquired a stunning bachelor pad in Hollywood Hills for a hefty $25.5 million. Additionally, he purchased a beautiful $4 million home in Altadena for his family. These luxury properties showcase Castro’s discerning taste and his commitment to providing a comfortable and stylish living environment for himself and his loved ones.
