Police Say Security Guard Shoots 88-Year-Old Woman He Thought Was A Burglar

LOS ANGELES: Police report that on Monday, a security monitor was arrested for allegedly shooting an 88-year-old woman at her Encino residence while mistaking her for a burglar.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the private security officer was dispatched to the residence of the elderly woman in the 5200 block of Encino Avenue in response to a burglar alarm. Authorities stated that the sentry was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm. Other information was unavailable at the time.

He allegedly fired the woman at that moment, mistaking her for a burglar. Following an abdominal wound, the woman was transported to the hospital for treatment. Her condition was not disclosed immediately.
