Police say gas station robbery that resulted in bystander killing suspect was planned as part of visa fraud scheme

An alleged accomplice has been charged with felony murder after an armed robber, who was pretending to hold up a couple, was shot and killed by a brave bystander. Officials believe that the robber’s motive was part of an elaborate scheme to obtain nonimmigrant visas.

According to court documents shared by Fox News Digital, Rasshauud Scott, a 22-year-old man, was captured on surveillance footage running up to a couple who were filling up their car at a Chevron gas station in Houston, Texas, on the evening of January 27th.

According to the documents, it was revealed through a series of messages that Scott was not actually robbing the couple. His widow, Sade Beverly, informed the police that it was a prearranged plan as part of an ongoing crime ring.

According to the affidavit, Scott, the alleged accomplice of William Winfrey, was informed by Winfrey that the robbery they were planning would be like the typical gas pump incident. Winfrey instructed Scott to make it appear authentic by saying, “make all that shit look real.”

During the police interview, one of the alleged victims verified that the robbery was indeed orchestrated as part of a scheme to acquire a U-visa, according to the affidavit.

A thief in New Jersey utilized Facebook Marketplace as a means to attract victims by offering PlayStation 5s, but his scheme took a dangerous turn when he intentionally struck one of his targets with his car, according to authorities.

“U Nonimmigrant Status” is granted to individuals who have been victims of specific crimes, and who have experienced mental or physical abuse. These individuals must also assist authorities in the investigation or prosecution of the suspects involved.

According to the affidavit, authorities soon recognized a recurring pattern in the reported robberies. They discovered that the victims, who had been granted U-visas as a result of their status as crime victims, were specifically targeted.

Oprah Winfrey was taken into custody on Wednesday and is facing murder charges in relation to the death of Scottt. On Monday, he was denied bond.

During the interviews, he candidly confessed under oath that he and Scott had orchestrated a series of “staged robberies” for approximately a year. The primary motive behind these incidents was to acquire a U-visa for the individuals involved, according to the affidavit.

Scott’s partner, Sade Beverly, expressed the immense challenge of raising their two children on her own in the wake of his absence.

The $30 million Los Angeles heist on Easter Sunday may remain unsolved for several reasons.

In a heartfelt interview with Fox 26, she expressed her deep empathy for him, acknowledging that while he had made a foolish choice, he certainly did not deserve the tragic fate that befell him. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him at all. I’m not here to defend him, but it’s important to recognize that his death was an unjust outcome,” she passionately shared.

Beverly acknowledged that she was aware of the wrongdoing he was engaged in, but she emphasized the importance of him receiving a fair trial.

In an interview with the outlet, she expressed her disappointment and urged for respect and sensitivity. She highlighted the loss of a life and emphasized the need for decorum in such situations. According to her, the individual involved would have eventually faced the consequences and learned from their mistakes. However, their life was abruptly taken away, denying them the opportunity to make amends.

According to the woman, lax gun laws are the “real issue”.
