The New York Police Department has reported that Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old Ecuadorian migrant who entered the U.S. illegally in June 2021, was apprehended overnight. This was made possible by the vigilance of community members who recognized him from a photo and video released by the police.
According to the police, they restrained him during the altercation, possibly using a belt, and treated him roughly. Following the incident, he was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
According to Joe Kenny, the Chief of Detectives at NYPD, Inga-Landi admitted to having a drug problem and claimed that he had never committed such an act before, after he waived his Miranda rights during his interaction with the police.
Prior to this incident, he had been apprehended for illegally entering the country in Eagle Pass, Texas. Additionally, he had received three summonses in New York City and had a domestic violence incident with law enforcement, although he was not arrested at that time.
In an interview with New York ABC station WABC, NYPD Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry lauded the community’s efforts that led to the capture of the suspect.
He expressed that the ease of going to school for kids, children, principals, and teachers, has increased, bringing relief to the family.
Daughtry praised the courage of the young victims and acknowledged the unwavering support provided by the community during the investigation.
He expressed the immense value of the sketches provided by the courageous children, stating that the combination of traditional investigative methods and advanced technology played a pivotal role in advancing the case towards a resolution. The city’s response was clear and unwavering – a resounding rejection of the abhorrent crime committed.
After explaining what had occurred, the two 13-year-olds were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The authorities were able to retrieve the shoelace that was utilized to bind the hands of the children, in addition to a water bottle that was left behind by the perpetrator.
A Hispanic male in his 20s is being sought by authorities. He stands at approximately 5-foot-5 and has curly hair. The individual was last seen wearing red sneakers and carrying a green backpack. He also appears to have dental braces and has a tattoo of a boar or a bull with red eyes on his chest.
