According to investigators, two children are currently recuperating in a Connecticut Intensive Care Unit after their father was reportedly prevented by police officers from trying to drown them at a West Haven beach in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to investigators, while inspecting a parked SUV at Dawson Avenue Beach around 2:30 a.m., a patrol officer from the West Haven Police Department heard screams emanating from the water.
According to the police, Romney Desronvil, 41, was spotted by an officer in the water with two children.
Police stated that they received assistance from the fire department and additional officers who entered the water to aid in the rescue efforts, going as far as 100 yards from the shore.
According to investigators, the father of two young children, both under the age of three, was successfully separated from his kids by officers who then quickly brought the children back to shore. Life-saving measures were administered before the children were immediately taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Later in the day, reporters were informed by West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer that the victims were exhibiting indications of improvement despite still being in critical condition.
Officer Williamson and Officer Miller were praised by her for their heroic actions that saved their lives.
Borer expressed that this morning, their luck was on their side as they had guardian angels watching over them.
According to investigators, Desronvil, who is a resident of Queens, New York, has been charged with two counts each of attempted manslaughter and risk of injury.
Police have stated that the investigation is still in progress and they may bring additional charges in the future.
It is currently unclear whether the suspect has legal representation, as information regarding the attorney is not yet available.
