Authorities are conducting an investigation following a fatal incident in East Harlem on Monday afternoon where a vehicle struck and killed a 51-year-old man.
According to the police, two males were hit by a driver who was unable to navigate the road while they were crossing the street.
The medical team rushed a man of 51 years to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in a critical state.
A 51-year-old man was the second victim who lost his life and was pronounced dead after being transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
The vehicle’s driver stayed at the location of the incident and received medical attention at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. It is anticipated that he will recover from his injuries.
According to a witness, the crash was so loud that it could be heard from inside her apartment.
Gloria, an eyewitness, recalled the moment when she heard a loud bang while sitting in her living room. She rushed to the window and saw people attempting to rescue someone from the scene. “All I could see is people trying to get him out and they laid him on the ground,” Gloria said.
As the surveillance footage reveals, a woman can be seen pushing a shopping cart and halting before crossing First Ave. Suddenly, a white sedan seems to veer off course and collide into the cart, causing it to topple over. The car then proceeds to hit a parked vehicle, which in turn strikes two men nearby.
According to locals, the victim had been a resident of the neighborhood for his entire life.
According to a neighbor, “My baby has come a long way, we did our homework together. Although there were some challenges, he tried to do the right thing. He was a really nice guy, always making people laugh.”
According to a neighbor, when she was battling cancer, she found solace in the company of a person who had a great sense of humor. “He used to make me laugh, and he would often invite me to come over for a visit, sit down, and watch TV with him,” she shared.
The second individual who was hit sustained severe injuries and is currently in critical condition.
At present, the authorities are still conducting an investigation to determine the appropriate course of action. It remains uncertain whether the driver involved in the incident will face charges.
