Over 56,000 people in Mississippi experience power outage following severe storm system – Magnolia State Live | Magnolia State Live

Over 56,000 households and businesses are currently experiencing power outages following a series of strong storms that swept through Central Mississippi on Thursday night and Friday morning.

According to Poweroutage.us, the majority of power outages in the state are occurring in Rankin County. As of 5 a.m. on Friday, over 20,000 customers in the county were experiencing a power outage.

Other areas experiencing power outages include Jasper, Newtom, Scott, Clarke, Hinds, and Claiborne County, as well as Copiah, Simpson, and Smith counties.

In the southeastern corner of the state, over 5,000 customers found themselves without power in George County.

Out of all the outages reported at 5 a.m., the majority were from Entergy with 28,371 outages and Southern Pine Electric with 14,711 outages.
