Enchanted Forest, Oregon’s beloved amusement park that is known for its fairy-tale theme, has recently received a nomination for Newsweek’s prestigious “Best Family-Owned Amusement Park” award. It is worth noting that Enchanted Forest is one of the two true amusement parks in the entire state. This recognition is a testament to the park’s commitment to providing a magical and enjoyable experience for families.
You have the opportunity to vote for your favorite family-owned theme park among 15 options nationwide. One of these options is Enchanted Forest, a magical wonderland located in the Salem area.
Enchanted Forest was established in the mid-1960s by Roger Tofte, who purchased the land and began constructing the park. Since its opening in 1971, the Tofte family has been managing and operating the Enchanted Forest.
“When we first started, my initial plan was to construct a few structures in the midst of the forest, and I estimated that it would take approximately two years,” Tofte shared with The Oregonian a few months after the park’s unveiling in the autumn of 1971. “However, things turned out differently, and we have ended up dedicating almost eight years to this endeavor due to our continuous surge of fresh and innovative concepts.”
Guests have been captivated by the park’s blend of enchanting storybook tales and thrilling experiences such as bumper cars and a log ride since its opening.
Enchanted Forest faced significant challenges in staying open amid the pandemic. Tragically, in 2020, the park’s owner Roger Tofte’s great-grandson, Wyatt Tofte, passed away at the age of 13 in the Beachie Creek fire. Shortly after, the park also suffered damage from ice in the following year.
Enchanted Forest, however, remained steadfast in its determination. The park has set its sights on opening for the 2024 season on March 22nd.
