Ohio Man Assaulted After Provoking Disney Guest With Down Syndrome, Police Say

A man’s visit to the enchanting destination concluded in a distressing manner as he found himself in a state of physical harm, with visible injuries, and eventually incarcerated. This unfortunate incident transpired earlier this year when, due to excessive alcohol consumption, he engaged in derogatory behavior towards a woman diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Consequently, a heated altercation ensued between him and the woman’s family, resulting in a bar brawl.

On the night of January 25th, Brent George, aged 61, found himself in trouble when he was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree battery. The incident took place at the Belle Vue Lounge, a captivating 1930s-style speakeasy nestled within the enchanting ambiance of Disney World’s Boardwalk Inn.

George, who appeared visibly injured on his face, informed the officers that he had been targeted with a glass cup by someone in the lounge, as stated in the affidavit from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Although he couldn’t recall the exact events leading up to the unprovoked attack, George admitted to consuming three shots of bourbon and a beer before approaching a nearby table occupied by another family.

According to the affidavit, the individual mentioned that he was enjoying his time with the group before they suddenly attacked him.

According to the affidavit, George’s friend supported his side of the story and informed the police that he had approached the family because they were “having fun.” The friend also stated that he witnessed a glass cup being thrown and overheard a person at the table expressing a desire to harm George. He asserted that George was merely acting in self-defense.

Sitting at the table with his family, Wesley Goldberg provided a contrasting account to the officers. He claimed that George had approached them and began taunting his sister, who has Down Syndrome and relies on a wheelchair, by mimicking the occasional grunts she made.

During the altercation, Candace Goldberg, the mother of Goldberg, confronted George and questioned if he was mocking her daughter. In response, George stood up and physically pushed her. When Goldberg’s wife attempted to intervene, George slapped her across the face. Goldberg then stepped in and engaged in a physical confrontation with George. However, a bystander swiftly intervened, grabbing George in a bearhug and quickly removing him from the scene.

According to the affidavit, there was no evidence of broken glass in the vicinity. It is also believed that a glass cup was not used during the incident.

George was taken into custody, handcuffed, and transported to a nearby jail without any further issues. He remained there overnight and was subsequently released the following day after his wife posted his $4,000 bond. Despite the charges against him, the Ohio resident has pleaded not guilty.
