NTSB issues final report on Buford plane emergency landing that collided with semi-truck on I-985

In January of last year, an aircraft was forced to perform an emergency landing on Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County.

In its final report on the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board attributed the total loss of engine power and subsequent emergency landing to fuel system contamination.

The Piper PA-28 remained on the northbound lanes of I-985 for several hours following the landing and crash. Fortunately, both the pilot and passenger emerged from the incident unscathed.

The NTSB report now reveals that the crash was caused by an issue that has previously been investigated by Channel 2 Action News.

In 2022, investigative reporter Justin Gray from Channel 2 took on the task of investigating a long-standing issue: the occurrence of small planes experiencing engine failures and subsequently crashing during flights.
