Mocobizscene- The NYPD reports that a hit-and-run in Belmont resulted in the death of a 35-year-old Harlem man, and that a guy from Norwood was taken into custody in relation to the event.
Authorities reported that at approximately 7:39 p.m. on Friday, February 16, they received a 911 call of a collision involving a vehicle at the intersection of Park Avenue and East 183rd Street. Officers reported that they found a guy, 35, who was conscious and alert. “The male victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital by emergency medical personnel, where he was later declared dead.”
The individual impacted the driver side of a black vehicle that was heading east on East 183rd Street while driving a two-wheeled, gas-powered moped south on Park Avenue, according to police. This information was discovered after additional inquiry. According to them, the sedan left the scene.
According to authorities, the car was last spotted turning right onto Washington Avenue from East 183rd Street. They went on, “At this time, there have been no arrests.” The NYPD Highway District’s Collision inquiry Squad (CIS) is still conducting the inquiry. The dead has been recognized as Williams Cruz, 35, who lived in Harlem on West 144th Street.
Later, according to police, Emilio Galvan, 25, of Hull Avenue in Norwood, was taken into custody on Saturday, February 17, at noon, as part of an ongoing investigation.Galvan is accused of operating a motor vehicle without insurance and fleeing the scene of an accident, according to the police. Until and unless they are found guilty in a court of law, a person who has been detained and accused of a crime is presumed innocent.
When conducting CIS investigations, the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) examines the street layout where the crashes occur, while the NYPD manages any criminal parts of the case. As previously reported, a fire at a nearby Belmont car repair shop broke out on Saturday night, February 17, without causing any injuries.
