New Aldi store development approved, expanding popular grocery chain’s presence in Mississippi

A popular grocery chain is rapidly expanding its presence in Mississippi by adding another one of its highly sought-after markets to its growing fleet of stores.

WLBT in Jackson announced that Ridgeland officials have given their approval to new plans for a development that will feature an Aldi grocery store.

The plans for a new development next to the existing Costco Wholesale on Highland Colony Parkway were unanimously approved by the Ridgeland mayor and Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, with a 7-0 vote.

Phase 3B of the Renaissance development will feature an Aldi market spanning 22,865 square feet.

The development, spanning 16 acres, will feature popular retailers such as T.J. Maxx, Old Navy, PetSmart, and La-Z-Boy.

Aldi, as stated on its website, currently operates 12 stores in Mississippi, including one in Flowood.

ALDI, a rapidly expanding grocery chain in the U.S., has revealed its intention to increase its store count by 800 across the country by the end of 2028. This expansion strategy will involve a mix of new store openings and conversions.

ALDI has successfully completed its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers and its Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket banners. This strategic move is expected to fuel substantial growth in the Southeast region in the coming years.

“Our customers are the driving force behind our growth, and they have expressed a desire for more ALDI stores in their neighborhoods across the country,” stated ALDI CEO, Jason Hart. He further added, “With our ability to offer up to 40% savings on groceries, we are attracting new customers who are eager to give us a try, while also maintaining the loyalty of our existing customers. We prioritize their satisfaction by ensuring that our shelves are stocked with only the finest products and by providing a shopping experience that is both quicker, easier, and more enjoyable. By committing to the addition of 800 stores within the next five years, we aim to meet the needs of our shoppers and make a positive impact on the communities we serve.”

ALDI has announced its plan to invest over $9 billion in the next five years to further expand its presence nationwide. This investment will be utilized to establish new locations throughout the country.

ALDI is expecting around 50 stores to start the conversion process in the latter half of 2024. These stores are projected to reopen under the ALDI brand in 2025.
