Missouri Facilities of Postal Service Contractor Shut Down, Resulting in Staff Layoffs

Matheson Flight Extenders, a warehousing and logistics company based in California, has recently made the decision to shut down its Missouri facility located in Kansas City. Unfortunately, this closure will lead to the layoff of 40 employees. It is worth noting that this closure is just one of several that Matheson has been implementing across various states, resulting in further layoffs within the company.

Matheson, a company that plays a vital role in mail handling, transportation, and logistics, is set to close its facility in Missouri on January 31, 2024. The closure was announced through a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) issued on December 4, 2023. This facility has been instrumental in processing mail for the USPS, just like its counterparts in other states.

Matheson Flight Extenders has also issued WARN notices in other states.

    • Missouri: 40 employees laid off
    • Texas: 92 employees laid off
    • Colorado: 60 employees laid off
    • Georgia: 46 employees laid off
    • Oregon: 62 employees laid off
    • California: 450 employees laid off

A total of 750 individuals have lost their jobs during this round of layoffs, with 1792 employees being laid off just this year. These closures and job cuts reflect a substantial reduction in Matheson Flight Extenders’ operations nationwide, demonstrating a significant change in the company’s business approach and operational presence. The decision to shut down these facilities and let go of workers highlights the broader difficulties faced by the company within the logistics and mail processing sector.
