Michigan Hospital Releases Mother and Son Following Car Accident

After a tragic car crash that claimed the lives of two family members and left one seriously injured, a mother and her son from Michigan have been discharged from the hospital.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up for the family, Chelsea and Levi Savage were released from the hospital on Wednesday, July 10, after spending 10 days recovering from injuries sustained in a car crash that claimed the lives of Dan and Mason Savage. The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of June 30 in Fillmore Township, while Dan was driving with his wife Chelsea and their three sons Mason, Parker, and Levi, as reported by NBC affiliate WOOD-TV.

Doctors had given a bleak prognosis for Mason’s condition, stating that it was “poor” and that he had sustained irreversible brain damage. As a result, he was placed on life support.

According to Joe Josten, who organized a GoFundMe campaign, Chelsea decided to donate Mason’s organs on July 6. As a result, at least four lives were saved.

According to a recent update from Josten, Parker, who will be turning 11 on July 15, is still in the ICU but there are small signs of improvement visible in his condition every day.

According to a report by CBS affiliate WWMT-TV, the family was on their way to enjoy a dune buggy ride when the incident took place at the intersection of 136th Avenue and 58th Street in Allegan County, approximately 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office conducted an initial investigation and found that Dan, who was driving west, did not stop at a stop sign. As a result, the family’s sedan collided with a pickup truck. Fortunately, the driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

According to Tina Josten, the boys’ great aunt, Dan’s failure to stop came as a shock to the family, especially given his profession as a driving instructor.

According to her, he is the one who conducts road tests for individuals to obtain their driver’s license. Therefore, he is an excellent and cautious driver.

According to Tina Josten, Dan had a deep love for his family.

Joe Josten, the organizer of the Savage family’s GoFundMe fundraiser, confirmed to PEOPLE on Thursday, July 11 that the campaign has raised almost $50,000.
