Maryland Governor Hits Back at Critics Blaming Baltimore Bridge Collapse on DEI, Citing Lack of Time for Foolishness

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) strongly criticized right-wing critics who blamed the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

During an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Moore was questioned about some of the remarks made regarding DEI, which stands for “Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.”

Republicans are pointing fingers at policies promoting workplace diversity as the cause of the bridge collapse. A Utah state representative, who is also a gubernatorial candidate, expressed his opinion on Twitter, stating, “This is what happens when you have governors who prioritize diversity over the well-being and security of citizens.” Similarly, a Republican candidate running for Congress in Florida attributed the incident to “DEI.” How do you react to these statements?

“I don’t have time for nonsense! I’m fully focused,” Moore stated firmly.

I’m making sure that we can get closure and comfort to these families. I’m making sure that we’re going to keep our first responders safe, doing heroic work. I’m making sure that we’re going to open up this channel and be able to get boats and ships and get our economic engine going again. I’m making sure that we’re taking care of our people to include our first responders and families and small businesses who’ve been impacted by this. And I’m making sure that we are going to get the Key Bridge rebuilt. I have no time for foolishness, and so I’m not going to delve into it.

Bash inquired whether the criticisms against DEI could be considered a manifestation of racism.

“My main priority is to ensure that these families receive the comfort and closure they need,” Moore emphasized. “Additionally, it is crucial that we provide the necessary support to our first responders and swiftly restore the affected channels and rebuild the Key Bridge. Frankly, I cannot afford to divert my attention to anything else at the moment. I am fully committed and dedicated to what truly matters at this time.”
