During an interview on the Sunday morning news program “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker, Senator Marco Rubio reaffirmed his previous statement to The Floridian, where he expressed his potential interest in being President Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick for the 2024 election.
Senator Rubio stated that he would not offer his opinion on a matter that he had not discussed with the campaign.
In an interview with The Floridian, Senator Rubio sarcastically remarked that the only place he knows he is being considered for the vice presidential position is in the media. He clarified that he has not been in contact with President Trump or his campaign regarding this matter.
According to Rubio, he has never had any conversations with Donald Trump or his campaign regarding the vice presidency. He believes that only one person knows who the VP will be, and that individual has not shared that information with anyone yet. Rubio sees being the Vice President as an opportunity to serve the country at a higher level and have a direct impact on decision-making. His goal is to support the President of the United States in making important decisions.
Marco Rubio expressed his conviction that being considered for the position of vice president should be regarded as an honor. In doing so, he subtly criticized Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I believe anyone who is considered for such an honor should feel grateful, but I have never been approached about it. I can assure you that Trump will have plenty of qualified individuals to choose from. On the other hand, the Democrats seem to be limited to Kamala Harris,” Rubio expressed. “Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 15 individuals who would be far superior to Kamala Harris. So, we can confidently say that we are in a good position.”
Rubio was asked whether he would ever contemplate relocating from Florida to establish residency in another state. In response, he referred to the constitutional uncertainty surrounding the possibility of both the presidential and vice presidential candidates hailing from the same state.
“The Floridian: Have you ever thought about leaving Florida?”
Rubio believes that the Constitution mandates the release of tax returns from different states, and he expresses doubt that Trump will be returning to New York in the near future.
Rubio was asked this question because his youngest daughter would soon be attending graduate school near Washington, D.C. and his younger son would be graduating from high school in the near future.
Rubio played a crucial role in assisting Trump in enhancing his foreign policy credentials. In various conversations and interviews with The Floridian, Rubio revealed that he had assumed a more extensive foreign policy position within the administration, both in the past few years and during the Trump era.
However, Rubio’s impact in Congress extended beyond foreign policy.
During the COVID pandemic, Trump, with assistance from his daughter Ivanka, enacted one of Rubio’s notable legislative achievements: the child Tax Credit measure. This measure, co-authored with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), was included in the comprehensive American Rescue Plan. Additionally, Rubio played a key role in drafting the PPP program, which provided crucial support to American small businesses during the early stages of the pandemic.
Rubio’s VA reform bill was among the first bills to be signed into law.
Marco Rubio played a crucial role in various important domestic policy legislative measures. However, his exceptional work with the Trump administration on foreign policy sets him apart from other Republican lawmakers and even potential Republican presidential candidates in 2028.
Marco Rubio has been at the forefront of the movement against China, spearheading the introduction of legislative measures aimed at addressing issues related to TikTok. Additionally, he has made significant efforts to reshape the United States’ relationship with Hong Kong following China’s takeover.
Furthermore, Rubio took an active role in authoring and successfully guiding the Secure Equipment Act through the legislative process. This crucial bill serves as a safeguard against potential surveillance by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) through companies like Huawei and ZTE. It achieves this by prohibiting the U.S. government from granting new equipment licenses to Chinese companies. Rubio’s efforts in passing this legislation highlight his commitment to protecting American citizens from potential threats posed by foreign entities.
