Man behind deadly crime spree shot and killed by police in New Carrollton

Mocobizscene- The New Carrollton Police Department (NCPD) has confirmed that officers shot and killed a man in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The individual was believed to be involved in a deadly crime spree across Washington D.C. and Maryland overnight.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is currently investigating the shooting.

Authorities suspect that the man is linked to a series of carjackings and shootings that occurred from late Monday evening to Tuesday morning in the District and Maryland. Additionally, they believe that the man may have been going through a mental health crisis during that period.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) received reports of a shooting in the 900 block of K St. NW in D.C. at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday. In response, MPD officers swiftly arrived at the scene.

According to authorities, at approximately 7:05 p.m., an individual made an attempt to carjack an individual in the 1000 block of 3rd St. NE near Florida Avenue. However, the suspect was unsuccessful in his endeavor and subsequently fled the scene.

The man later turned out to be Alberto Vasquez Jr., aged 35. The police discovered an abandoned car in Prince George’s County, which they determined to be stolen from the vicinity of 3rd and N streets NE in D.C.

According to investigators, the man allegedly committed another vehicle theft in Prince George’s County before proceeding to contact a rideshare service and steal the SUV, specifically a Nissan Rogue, that the driver was operating.

According to the Maryland State Police, it is believed that the same suspect may have fired shots at a trooper’s windshield along I-95 in Laurel around 2:30 am.

In the early hours of the morning, a D.C. police cruiser was approached by a Nissan Rogue on 295. As the Rogue passed by, the driver opened fire, hitting the side door of the police vehicle. Fortunately, the officer inside escaped unharmed. The New Carrollton Police Department eventually located the Nissan Rogue. According to the police, the suspect approached two members of their department in New Carrollton.
