The Florence County Democratic Party chairman has confirmed that Mack T. Hines, a beloved native of Florence and a long-serving representative of South Carolina, passed away on Thursday at the age of 77.
Isaac Wilson expressed his admiration for the unwavering dedication of Rep. Hines, who served the people of Florence and Marion counties from 1995 to 2005. He mentioned that Rep. Hines’ commitment to public service was an inspiration to many and set a high standard.
According to the South Carolina State House, Hines earned a bachelor of arts degree from Allen University in 1969 before pursuing a bachelor of divinity from Morris College School of Religion. He began his professional journey as a teacher in the Florence 1 School District and dedicated 12 years of his life to this role.
In 2005, Hines was honored by the South Carolina General Assembly with a resolution, following his achievement of a doctorate of ministry from Hood Theological Seminary.
“While we grieve his passing, let us also honor the lasting impact of his service and the positive influence he had on our community and state,” expressed Wilson. “His contributions will continue to inspire us as we strive towards a better tomorrow for all. We send our heartfelt sympathies to his family and loved ones during this challenging period.”
