Mocobizscene- Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith has acknowledged the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department located in Washington, D.C. They received recognition on November 28, 2023, for their response to a distress call. Following a 911 complaint of an ongoing sexual assault, officers Heather Lynn and Brian Lafranchise were sent to the scene.
At first, it was impossible for the officers to get inside the flat where the assault was taking on. Officer Lafranchise asked the 911 caller for more details while Officer Lynn tried to enter. They asked for a breach kit, and with the victim’s and Officer Ethan Way’s assistance, they were allowed entry.
Officer Lynn observed the suspect running away after entering. Officers Lynn and Lafranchise gave the suspect the order to surrender as Officer Way attended to the victim. The victim notified them that the suspect was armed. The suspect went up to the cops, but then he started reaching for covert weapons.
De-escalation tactics by the police resulted in the suspect’s surrender. Following his arrest, he was accused of kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse, and obstructing law enforcement. Chief Smith gave the police praise for their efforts.
Officers Lynn, Lafranchise, and Way were awarded Achievement Medals on January 2, 2023, in recognition of their contributions to the incident. The commendation highlights the officers’ dedication to community safety.
