Local Essex County Resident Admits to Gun and Drug Offenses

Morristown, NJ – In a major legal development, Taurean Gordon, a resident of Irvington in Essex County, New Jersey, has confessed to charges of possessing narcotics and a firearm illegally. U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger disclosed this information after Gordon pleaded guilty in Camden federal court.

Appearing before U.S. Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas, Gordon pleaded guilty to a superseding information charge. The charge included three counts: being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents and statements, it was revealed that on February 11, 2021, Gordon was discovered to have heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine in his possession. These drugs were packaged in a way that indicated they were intended for distribution. Additionally, Gordon, who had a prior conviction, was found to be illegally in possession of a North American Arms Inc. revolver. The revolver was loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Gordon could face severe consequences for his involvement in the narcotics offense. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison and be fined up to $1 million. Additionally, due to his status as a felon, the firearm possession charge could result in a maximum 10-year prison term. The charge of possessing a firearm to advance a drug trafficking operation carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, which must be served consecutively to any other sentence and could potentially extend to life imprisonment. It is important to note that each of the firearm-related counts also comes with a potential fine of up to $250,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys DeNae Thomas from the Health Care Fraud Unit and George Barchini from the Narcotics/Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit are representing the government in this case, demonstrating the strong commitment to pursuing and addressing such crimes within the justice system.
