A prominent Republican is speaking out against the “radical individuals” within the House GOP’s chaos caucus, while Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is threatening to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
During an interview with Ed O’Keefe on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Representative Mike Turner (R-OH), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, expressed strong criticism towards individuals who are obstructing Johnson’s efforts to bring a Ukraine aid package to the floor.
“Regrettably, the Chaos Caucus persists in their efforts to obstruct every action taken in Congress,” Turner remarked. “It’s perplexing because they offer no alternate solution. They simply oppose the measures that are crucial… This particular action is indispensable for the sake of national security.”
Turner stated that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has made it clear that he will not urge Democrats to engage in any attempts to remove the speaker.
According to Turner, Jeffries has firmly stated that he will not align with Republican rebels in an attempt to remove Speaker Johnson. Turner believes that there will be widespread support in Congress to accomplish this task.
During the current Congress, O’Keefe pointed out that there have been 20 Republicans who have left the House. Curious about whether there are any others planning to depart, Turner responded that he is unaware of any additional Republicans considering an exit. He also went on to provide a broader assessment of the current state of affairs within the House.
According to Turner, the recent events have highlighted the presence of radical fringes and individuals who are driven by chaos rather than a clear ideology or agenda. This lack of direction can lead to disruptions, making it challenging for those who simply want to accomplish their tasks efficiently.
