A funeral home is currently facing new allegations regarding the mishandling of other bodies, after being accused of sending dirt instead of a grieving family’s baby’s ashes.
In an exclusive interview with Channel 2, Alexus Taylor and Jalen Matthews’ attorney discussed the shocking incident where the couple received an urn filled with dirt instead of the ashes of their newborn son, Josiah.
Seiden was informed by him that he knows of at least five other families who were deceived about the remains of their loved ones.
Attorney Matt Wetherington expressed his strong emotions about the case, saying, “Out of all the cases I’ve worked on, as a parent myself, this one has left me particularly enraged.”
A civil lawsuit is being prepared against Stan Henderson and Sons Mortuary by the individual who alleges that the owner of the Henry County business, in this case, has deceived them.
When Wetherington contacted the crematory, he discovered that there were several other families who had also been deceived into believing that they were receiving the ashes of their deceased loved ones.
He mentioned that there are several other families who have had the same experience. In fact, there is still someone else’s remains that have been left on the shelf, waiting to be collected.
Seiden has been attempting to reach out to owner Stan Henderson since Tuesday, but he preferred to wait until he had hired an attorney before sharing his perspective. Seiden made multiple phone calls and even visited an address associated with Henderson on Thursday. Finally, on Thursday afternoon, Seiden received a call back from Henderson.
Seiden also contacted the crematory, but the owner declined to provide an on-camera comment. However, the owner did mention that she attempted to contact the funeral home multiple times. Since she did not receive a response, she took it upon herself to reach out to the grieving families directly.
According to Wetherington, funeral homes are required to provide a certificate of authenticity, which was not given to this couple.
Seiden has been trying to contact board members responsible for regulating the funeral industry for several days, but he hasn’t received any responses to his calls or emails.
