Law Enforcement in Florida and Georgia Intensify Efforts to Catch Speeding Drivers

You may have noticed an increase in the number of officers on the road recently, so it’s best to think twice before exceeding the speed limit.

As part of Operation Southern Slow Down, law enforcement officials in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee are actively targeting speeding drivers.

The annual campaign in Florida is supported by various organizations such as the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Department of Transportation, and local as well as statewide police departments.

Starting on July 15th, the objective of the operation is to increase awareness about the dangers of speeding and emphasize the significance of safe driving.

According to Hampton Ray, a spokesperson for FDOT, speed is undoubtedly a dangerous factor on the roads.

According to FLHSMV’s 2022 data, over 13,000 crashes were a result of speeding or driving too fast.

According to a report by our news partners at the Jax Daily Record in 2010, I-95 in Florida was listed among America’s most dangerous interstates. This week, law enforcement officials will be conducting patrols on this interstate, as mentioned by Ray.

During our visit to I-95, we observed the speed of vehicles traveling southbound. It was noted that the majority of drivers maintained a speed limit of no more than 70 mph.

According to Ray, the main objective of Operation Southern Slow Down is to promote safe driving practices.

According to Ray, this week is focused on high visibility enforcement to promote safe driving. Even if you are following the speed limit, it is important to slow down and drive carefully when on the road.
