Judge Recuses Himself From New Orleans Mother’s Stabbing Case

New Orleans— A judge from Orleans Parish has tendered his recusal in the matter concerning a New Orleans mother who is charged with harming her two young children.

According to court documents, Jenee Pedesclaux and the father of the children were embroiled in a custody dispute at the time of the August 2022 assault. Due to their injuries, one of the infants perished.

Monday, during a pretrial conference in court, Pedesclaux was present when newly elected Judge Leon Roche withdrew his recusal from the case.

He disclosed to the attorneys that he had previously advised a party in a legal matter in which Pedesclaux was identified as the defendant. In an abundance of caution, he decided to recuse himself from the case, further explaining that his involvement in the investigation had endowed him with “intimate knowledge” regarding her.

The defense attorney for Pedesclaux, Williams Boggs, objected to that decision. Presently, a new judge must be appointed to preside over the case. That, according to Boggs, could occur within a week at WDSU.

Pedesclaux’s mother, Troyline Trigs, stated in an exclusive interview with WDSU that she has conflicting emotions regarding the development.

“While I was somewhat dismayed because I had hoped he would preside over the proceedings, I can appreciate the outcome as it ensures that my child is assigned a just judge. Trigs stated, “I am here fighting for my child because my child is ill.”

Pedesclaux has previously been subjected to competency evaluations.
