On Tuesday, Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia, made a baseless accusation, suggesting that President Joe Biden conspired to have former President Donald Trump assassinated in 2022. She claimed that this alleged plot unfolded during an FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago aimed at recovering stolen classified documents. However, it is important to note that there is no evidence to support Greene’s claims.
“The Biden DOJ and FBI had allegedly planned to assassinate President Trump and reportedly gave their approval,” she passionately exclaimed on X. “Can you believe it? What actions will the Republicans take in response to this?”
In a display of alarming ignorance, Trump and his allies at Fox News and Newsmax mindlessly echoed the claim, completely disregarding the fact that seeking authorization is a standard practice for the Department of Justice. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel expressed his disgust with their actions, stating in his opening monologue on Wednesday, “It would almost be comical if it wasn’t such a foolish and perilous situation.”
In response to a compilation of right-wing pundits spreading fear about the alleged assassination attempt, Kimmel directly addressed them, expressing, “We hope that one day you will be able to feel a sense of shame.”
In a humorous yet pointed manner, Kimmel highlighted the ludicrousness of the latest conspiracy theory targeting Biden. According to this unfounded claim, Biden, the supposed diabolical mastermind, allegedly dispatched a group of ultra-liberal FBI agents to assassinate Donald Trump. However, as Kimmel wryly pointed out, Trump managed to evade this elaborate plot by conveniently slipping out the back door. The absurdity of the theory further escalated when one considers that Trump and his entire entourage, including 15 Secret Service agents, were actually in New Jersey at the time of the alleged raid on Mar-a-Lago.
Kimmel, in response to MTG’s claims, commented, “It’s remarkable how imaginative she is. It’s almost as if she has the mind of a child, you know?”
Kimmel concluded the discussion by accusing Trump’s critics of presenting the news in a sensational and hypocritical manner, while minimizing any negative stories about Trump.
“They’re quite theatrical,” Kimmel quipped humorously. “The atmosphere in the courtroom is described as a ‘freezing icebox,’ recovering stolen documents is compared to ‘an assassination attempt,’ but what about this?” He proceeded to show some short video clips of Trump supporters forcefully entering the Capitol on January 6, 2021. “According to them, it’s just like going on a vacation.”
