Mocobizscene– A couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary is bravely battling for survival following a devastating house fire that occurred on Monday night in Franklin Township, New Jersey.
According to Genevieve Klein-Parks, the couple’s granddaughter, their family is currently experiencing a sense of disbelief and shock. Genevieve Klein-Parks and her sister Sunshine Klein-Parks have had a difficult and emotional year. The sisters are currently grappling with another tragedy after losing their mother and uncle within a few months of each other.
“It’s really frightening to see how many of our family members have fallen ill and now they are all hospitalized,” expressed Sunshine Klein-Parks, reflecting the anxiety and concern surrounding the situation.
Minutes after the wood stove in the living room caught fire around 9 p.m. on Monday night, firefighters successfully rescued her brother and grandparents. Their brother attempted to extinguish the fire using two fire extinguishers before rushing upstairs to assist their 77-year-old grandfather as the flames rapidly spread.
Sunshine Klein-Parks mentioned that while her brother and grandfather received assistance in getting down from the roof, her grandmother remained downstairs. Firefighters successfully rescued a 76-year-old woman who had fallen and managed to crawl to the front door.
An ambulance transported their grandson to the hospital, while she and her husband were airlifted. Sunshine Klein-Parks shared that her brother apologised while in the hospital, as he believed that all of the family’s Christmas presents had been destroyed in the fire.
The investigators are currently in the process of determining the exact cause of the fire.
The home has been a part of their family for many years, and unfortunately, it seems that it may be completely destroyed. However, both sisters share a common sentiment – their primary concern is the well-being and togetherness of their loved ones during the holiday season.
Sunshine Klein-Parks expressed her concern about her grandfather’s condition, stating that he has suffered burns on 30% of his body and is currently relying on a breathing tube for assistance. She also mentioned another individual who has sustained burns on 15% of their body.
Both grandparents were in critical condition. According to these sisters, their lives were most likely saved due to their brother’s quick thinking. Sunshine Klein-Parks described him as someone who has always been proactive and eager to lend a helping hand to others.
