Incendiary device hurled onto porch of Satanic temple in Massachusetts

According to a press release by the police, an explosive device was thrown at approximately 4:14 a.m. on Monday. The staff was able to detect it at around 4:00 p.m.

State police bomb technicians ensured that the device posed no threat, while the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) supported the investigation. Additionally, police dogs were deployed to ensure there were no secondary devices in the vicinity.

No additional information regarding the extent of the damage has been provided. The Satanic Temple and Salem police have been contacted by The Hill for comment.

The incident is currently under investigation by the police and an FBI joint terrorism task force.

The Satanic Temple, established in 2013, boasts a Salem headquarters featuring a gallery showcasing Satanism and the history of witch hunts. The website describes the center as a frequent venue for formal ceremonial events, lectures, screenings, and meetings.

According to the news release from the Salem police, the center has previously handled bomb threats.

In June 2022, a man was taken into custody for committing arson. Despite being accused of intentionally setting fire to the building, he maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.
