Hospital security guard and nurse attacked, leading to arrest of suspect, say Habersham County deputies

Deputies say that a man from Habersham County has been charged with assaulting a hospital security guard and obstructing medical staff at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham on Tuesday.

Christopher Jarred Martin, a resident of Alto, allegedly assaulted a security guard at the hospital by kicking and biting them, as stated in the warrants issued by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

The guard sustained injuries that resulted in broken skin, swelling, and bruising while receiving treatment in the hospital’s emergency room. According to the sheriff’s office, Martin initiated the attack on the guard while being restrained.

According to additional warrants pertaining to the incident, it is alleged that Martin impeded the work of emergency medical technicians employed by the Northeast Georgia Health System. Specifically, Martin is accused of preventing a registered nurse and a medical technician from carrying out their duties.

According to the sheriff’s office, Martin remained in custody as of Friday.
